ARMENIAN LEADER TO LIFT RESTRICTIONS ON MEDIA UNDER EMERGENCY RULE

Yerevan, 12 March: Armenian President Robert Kocharyan stated in
Yerevan today that he does not see any reasons toprolong the effect
of the state of emergency.
Mediamax reports that, talking with journalists today, the president
stated that in the whole period of the state of emergency effect no
cases of violation of the given order were registered, "the situation
in Yerevan is calm andfully controllable".
The decree on imposing a state of emergency in Yerevan up till 20
March was signed by the Armenian president on 1March.
Robert Kocharyan informed that today or tomorrow he will sign a decree
on mitigating the limitations for the work of media, implemented in
connection with the state of emergency.
According to the president, the decree will clearly determine the
actions, which the media will have to refrain from,in particular,
from publication of deliberately false and provocative information.
