"The People's Advocate" to make East Coast Debut at New York Underground
    Film Festival

Critically acclaimed documentary chronicles legendary Armenian-American
    attorney Charles Garry's turbulent career.

NEW YORK (March 2008) - "The People's Advocate: The Life & Times of Charles
    R. Garry" will make its East Coast debut at the 15th Annual New York
Underground Film Festival on Saturday, April 5. The feature length
documentary chronicles the gripping story of one of the twentieth century's
most influential civil rights attorneys, Charles Garry (1909-1991), who
gained national prominence during the 1960s for his defense of notorious
    anti-establishment icons.

Featuring rare archival footage and candid interviews with his clients and
close associates, "The People's Advocate" traces Garry's life from his
experiences as a young Armenian growing up in Fresno, California to his
ascendance as the attorney of the Black Panther Party. Amongst the film's
interviewees are famed historian Howard Zinn, and Black Panther leaders
Ericka Huggins, Bobby Seale, Kathleen Cleaver and David Hilliard.

Called "an illuminating portrait" by The Hollywood Reporter, "The People's
Advocate" debuted to a sold out audience at the 30th annual Mill Valley Film
Festival in October 2007, and has since screened at several other festivals,
including the Arpa International Film Festival where it won the award for
"Best Documentary." It is Los Angeles-based director Hrag Yedalian's first
film and the recipient of the 2007 Bay Area Video Coalition Mediamaker
    Award.

The documentary will screen as an official selection of the New York
Underground Film Festival on Saturday, April 5 at 3:30pm at the Anthology
Film Archives located at 32 2nd Avenue in New York.
