MINISTER OSKANIAN PARTICIPATED IN THE BRUSSELS FORUM 2008

March 15-16 RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian participated in the
Brussels Forum 2008 in the capital of Belgium.
Within the framework of the forum Minister Oskanian and Georgia's
State Minister for Issues of Reintegration Teymur Yakobashvili took
delivered speeches during the discussion titled "Does the Path to
Europe extend to the Caucasus?"
In his speech Minister Oskanian particularly turned to the elections
held in Armenia and the following events, which he characterized not
as a regress from democracy but as temporary deviation. Analyzing
the situation after the elections, the Minister clarified that it is
the consequence of the lack of public trust in political and social
institutions.
Speaking about Armenia-Europe relations and their perspectives, the
Minister suggested focusing on education and media as main spheres
of cooperation in teh future.
Concluding his speech, Minister Oskanian underlined that today
Armenia needs Europe more than ever in order to work together to
deepen democracy.
Minister Oskanian had a meeting with EU High Commissioner for Common
Foreign and Security policy Javier Solana. The interlocutors discussed
the post-election situation in Armenia and the ways to overcome the
situation as soon as possible.
