    NATIONAL AIR CARRIER OF ARMENIA, ARMAVIA, OPENS FLIGHTS TO MARSEILLES, RIGA AND ASTRAKHAN

    ArmInfo. In late March 2008 the national air carrier of Armenia,
    Armavia, is opening flights to Marseilles, Astrakhan and Riga. In
    the summer the flights will become regular.

    In May 2008 Armavia is planning to buy a new A-320. As a result, the
    company will have two A-320, two A-319, a Yak-42, a Boeing-737-300,
    IL-86 and CRJ-100ER. The last plane was bought on Feb 1 2008 and flies
    to Aleppo, Minsk, Odessa, Simferopol. In the future the company is
    planning to use the plane to fly to Tehran and Beirut.

    Presently, Armavia flies to 29 cities in the CIS and Europe. On the
    home market it successfully competes with British Airways, Air France,
    Aeroflot, Czech Airlines, Austian Airlines, Lufthansa.

    In 2007 Armavia was steadily developing and further improving its
    safety system and quality of services. In 2007 the company carried
    572,300 people - 105,000 (21%) more than in 2006. The revenue passenger
    load grew to 106%, while the fuel consumption dropped to 98%.

    The owner of Armavia, big businessman Mikhail Bagdasarov, and the
    managers of the company give high priority to implementation of
    new investment projects, introduction of information technologies,
    application of a system approach to the safety of flights and,
    certainly, to further improvement of the quality of services.
