"HEREDITARY INCLINATION FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES OBSERVED AMONG ARMENIANS," CARDIOLOGIST SHAHEN KHACHATRIAN SAYS

    Noyan Tapan
    March 17, 2008

YEREVAN, MARCH 17, NOYAN TAPAN. In connection with weather changes
exacerbation of different kinds of diseases are observed in autumn,
in particular, among people suffering from cardiovascular diseases. As
cardiologist Shahen Khachatrian mentioned at the press conference,
which was held on March 14, in that period the number of people
applying to medical institutions twice increases. According to him,
the change of the weather is not sharp this year in Armenia, it is
proceeding in a normal way, which does not have a great influence
under the circumstances of the above-mentioned phenomena.

In the words of Shahen Khachatrian, a hereditary inclination for
cardiovascular diseases is observed among Armenians. "In differnce
to other nations, those diseases have rejuvenated among Armenians:
in the sense of genotype, we are more inclined for cardiovascular
diseases," he said. Shahen Khachatrian mentioned that in order to
prevent those diseases, a person should, first of all, have right food,
lead a physically active life, not abuse the use of vodka and tobacco.

Going to the doctor more frequently is one of the most productive means
for the prevention of the diseases. Shahen Khachatrian is sure that
approximately 60 percent of the sick people in Armenia does not go to
the doctor at all. According to him, according to the international
statistical data, 2000-2200 people among every one million population
in the world are suffering from the ischaemic heart disease. "In this
respect, one can say that about 7000 people in Armenia are suffering
    from that disease," he mentioned.

Shahen Khachatrian also mentioned that the population of Armenia
underwent a national depression in the post-election period,
particularly during the past 10-12 days. According to him, the events
of the past days have also had influence on the exacerbation of the
    cardiovascular diseases.
