UNEMPLOYMENT LEVEL DROPS TO 6.7 PERCENT

YEREVAN, MARCH 18, ARMENPRESS: Unemployment level in Armenia dropped
15 percent by March 1, 2008 or by 15,600 people.
The Employment Service, an affiliation of the Labor and Social Affairs
Ministry, said officially there were 87,000 jobless Armenians and
almost 84 percent of them were granted the status of unemployed,
but only 15,000 were legible to unemployment allowance.
The Employment Service said the share of jobless women was high. They
made almost 75 percent of all jobless people. The jobless were
largely school teachers, technicians, engineers, hospital nurses
and accountants.
The unemployment level, according to official figures is 6.7 percent
now. The highest rate is in the northwestern province of Shirak-15.5
percent, followed by Syunik-14.7 percent and Lori-12.2 percent. The
lowest is in Vayots Dzor-5.9 percent.
