METHANE PROCESSING PLANT TO APPEAR IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, March 21. /FIS/ Construction of a greenhouse gas processing
plant is to begin in 2009 in Yerevan (Armenia) in the territory of
the Nurbashen community dump. The project is currently being developed
by Yerevan Municipality and Japan's Shimizu.
According to the project, the accumulated 8 million tons of waste could
be processed into methane to be used in electric power generation. The
proposal to reduce methane atmospheric discharges in amount of 100
ths tons was made by Japan, which is set to reduce its Kyoto protocol
obligations.
