Armenian president endorses opposition leader's house arrest
Armenian President Robert Kocharyan has effectively endorsed
opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan's house arrest, opposition
daily Haykakan Zhamanak has reported.
The paper was referring to amendments, signed by Kocharyan on 21
March, to the law on "Security of persons subject to special state
protection".
The Armenian opposition had maintained that the country's former
president, Ter-Petrosyan, was placed under house arrest after
security forces dispersed the opposition rally in the capital Yerevan
on 1 March.
The rally started on 20 February in protest against the results of
the 19 February presidential polls of which Prime Minister Serzh
Sargsyan was declared the winner.
