Featuring Christiane Karam and the ZilZALA Middle Eastern Ensemble, who will
open with an uplifting blend of influences that range from Lebanese,

APRIL 3, 2008 . MONUMENTS & POST-SOVIET ARMENIAN IDENTITY. Lecture by Dr.
Levon Abrahamian entitled 'Fighting with Memory and Monuments: Re-Shaping
Post Soviet Armenian Identity.' Begins at 8 p.m. at the NAASR Center, 395
Concord Ave., Belmont, Mass. Abrahamian will discuss the fight over
monuments that celebrate Soviet luminaries and their symbolism in
post-Soviet Armenia with attention to the broader context of other
post-Soviet countries. Abrahamian is head of the Department of Contemporary
Anthropological Studies at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of
the Academy of Sciences of Armenia. He is the author of 'Armenian Identity
in a Changing World' and co-editor of 'Armenian Folk Arts, Culture, and

APRIL 6 & MAY 4, 2008 . 'THE WAY WE WERE' MUSICAL ENSEMBLE tours with the
popular show 'Hello Ellis Island.' Set in the 1920's with a group of
Armenians bound on a steam ship for the 'new world.' During the program,
they each tell their stories in song, dance and verbalized tales.
Accompanying them is band of musicians playing 'old country' Armenian
instruments. Hourig Papazian-Sahagian, the author, producer and director of
the play, has revived a neglected repertoire of traditional song and dance
as well as the classic art-song of Gomidas Vartabed. She's assembled a
troupe of 30 U.S.-born Armenians from families of genocide survivors. For
over a decade, the ensemble named 'The Way We Were' performed
musical-theater productions all along the East Coast. For more information

APRIL 8, 2008 . LECTURE BY AMB. ARMEN MARTIROSSYAN, Permanent Representative
of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations. The lecture is titled 'The
Armenain Genocide: Remembering a Past, Building a Future.' The talk is
presented by the Darakjian-Jafarian Chair in Armenian History at Tufts
University and NAASR. At 7 p.m. at the Goddard Chapel, Tufts University,

APRIL 11, 14, 16 & 25, 2008 . 'GENOCIDE: WEEKS OF REMEMBRANCE AND
REFLECTION.' During April, the Southern Connecticut State University in New
Haven, Conn., takes a look at issues pertaining to genocide through
lectures, films and readings. April 11-Poet and scholar Peter Balakian will
give a lecture titled 'The Armenian Genocide and Modernity' at 12 p.m., in
Engleman Hall B121-A & B, followed at 1:30 by a light lunch and at 2 p.m. a
poetry reading. April 14-Daniel Mendelsohn, a professor of humanities at
Bard College, will discuss his book, 'The Lost: A Search for Six of Six
Million,' in a talk titled 'Finding The Lost: A Journey into the History,
Family, and Judaism.' From 2-3:30 p.m. in the Adanti Student Center
Ballroom. April 16-Screening of the film 'The Killing Fields,' the
award-winning British film drama about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. A
post-film discussion will be hosted by Jerry Dunklee, SCSU professor of

distinguished speakers will deliver lectures beginning at 1 p.m. in Engleman
A120: Benedict Kiernan, director of the Genocide Studies Program at Yale

co-editor of 'Genocide's Aftermath, will discuss 'The Paradox of Genocidal
Rape Aimed at Forced Pregnancy.' James E. Young, chairman of the Department
of Judaic and Near Eastern Studies at the UMass-Amherst, will speak on
'Memory, Counter-memory and the Monument after 9/11: From Berlin to New

APRIL 11, 2008 . BLACK SEA SALSA plays at the Mosesian Theatre in the
Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown, Mass, marking the first time the
Center has engaged an Armenian group to play at the 350-seat auditorium.
Begins at 7:30 p.m. (A complimentary Latin dance class is offered at 6:30
p.m. by Extreme Dance Sport.) Led by trumpeter Dan Teager (Tergukasian) and
featuring John Baboian on guitar, the 15-piece group has established itself
as one of Boston's premier festival bands bringing its high-energy mix of
Latin jazz, blues and Armenian rhythms to venues such as Sculler's Jazz
Club, Steppin' Out Boston and Boston Harborfest. Teager started the group in
October 1996 through a grant from the Armenian International Women's
Association (AIWA). Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for children, students

APRIL 23, 2008 . MARGARET AHNERT will speak about her book, 'The Knock at
the Door: A Journey Through the Darkness of the Armenian Genocide,' to the
Harvard Armenian Society and NAASR. Ahnert's compelling account of her
mother's suffering is framed by an intimate portrait of her relationship
with her 98-year-old mother. Ester's inspiring stories, told lovingly by her
daughter, provide a window into the harrowing struggle of Armenians during a
terrible period in human history. Begins at 7:30 p.m. at Harvard's Center

popular show 'Hello Ellis Island.' Set in the 1920's with a group of
Armenians bound on a steam ship for the 'new world.' During the program,
they each tell their stories in song, dance and verbalized tales.
Accompanying them is band of musicians playing 'old country' Armenian
instruments. Hourig Papazian-Sahagian, the author, producer and director of
the play, has revived a neglected repertoire of traditional song and dance
as well as the classic art-song of Gomidas Vartabed. She's assembled a
troupe of 30 U.S.-born Armenians from families of genocide survivors. For
over a decade, the ensemble named 'The Way We Were' performed

Center has engaged an Armenian group to play at the 350-seat auditorium.
