LEVON MELIK-SHAHNAZARIAN: TO CHANGE TALKS~R FORMAT INEXPEDIENT

YEREVAN, 25.03.08. DE FACTO. If Azerbaijan requires that the current
format of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement talks be changes
the most correct format will be 3 + 3 + 1. The first three will
include the NKR, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The second three are the
OSCE Minsk group Co-Chairs, Iran may be added to them~T, the IA DE
FACTO political editor Levon Melik-Shahnazarian stated in the course
of a conference initiated by the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Youth Union,
devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Karabakh movement.
Levon Melik-Shahnazarian believes Iran has the experience of
mediatory activity between the NKR and Azerbaijan, it has political
memory and being an Islamic country it maintains good relations with
Armenia. ~SUnder such conditions I think Iran is a state acceptable
for both the Azerbaijani and Armenian parties~T, the political
scientist stated.
At the same time he added he considered the change of format of
the mediatory activity for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement
inexpedient at present.
