    DEFENSE and SECURITY (Russia)
    March 26, 2008 Wednesday

Defense Minister of Armenia, Mikael Arutyunyan, announced that Armenian
peacekeepers might take part in the mission in Afghanistan.

Arutyunyan said, "Negotiations on the participation of Armenian
peacekeepers in the mission in Afghanistan are currently underway.

This country needs doctors and interpreters. We have a possibility
to send these specialists there but this issue is not settled yet."

Arutyunyan also reports that the quantity of Armenian peacekeepers
    in Kosovo will be doubled.

He said, "Seventy-four Armenian peacekeepers will take part in the
    mission in Kosovo."

The first platoon of Armenian peacekeepers being 34 servicemen
strong flew to Kosovo on February 12 of 2004. Armenian peacekeepers
participate in the peacekeeping operation in Kosovo within the Greek
    battalion near Urosevac.
