New York AYF Hosts Annual Halloween Bar Party

NEW YORK - On Friday October 24 the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) New York
Hyortik Chapter hosted its annual Halloween Bar Party at Maggie Mae's in
Queens, NY. Dressed in the most unique Halloween attire the over 130
members, alumni and guests from New York, New Jersey, Boston, and
Philadelphia packed the bar's main hall that was rented out and decorated by
    the Hyortiks.

Attendees dressed as Popeye, soccer players, 80s rock stars, and 70s disco
girls danced to music spun by DJ Shocker. Later the annual costume contest
was held where Philadelphia AYF member Phil Nigon defended his Best Costume
title by dressing as the Candy Man. Although the votes were very close with
each passing contestant, the peoples' voice was definitely heard in the end
and Nigon took the title for a second year in a row.

As the party winded down in the early hours of the morning, Hyortik members
led remaining attendees in Armenian patriotic songs. "In a time where so
many things take students away from the community, events like tonight bring
them back, and inspire in them, a feeling of togetherness that can not be
found anywhere, except amongst their family," said New York AYF member Toros
    Asadourian.
