YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The international economic crisis
and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan greatly contributed to Barack
Obama's victory in the U.S. presidential election, member of the board
of the Republican Party of Armenia, National Assembly deputy Hakob
Hakobian expressed an opinion at the November 6 press conference. As
regards Obama's promises to recognize the Armenian Genocide, he said:
"The issue of the Genocide has been politicized in the U.S. for years
    - according to expediency". In the words of H. Hakobian, there has
not been a U.S. president who did not promise Armenian Americans to
    recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Speaking about the internal political situation in Armenia, he said
that the opposition should cooperate with the authorities in various
issues - for the welfare of the country. This cooperation is also
related to the work of the fact-finding group on inquiry into the
    March 1 events.

Responding to the question about why, after the March 1 events, the
National Assembly agreed to deprive four opposition deputies of their
immunity, H. Hakobian replied that the indicated persons were their
friends, but he and other deputies are not guided by their feelings
when making a decision. "The National Assembly has no power to make
legal decisions, so the judicial system has to examine the issue of
    our frineds," H. Hakobian said.
