He met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Brussels
on Wednesday.
"Serzh Sargsyan attributes large significance to cooperation with
NATO as an element of Armenian security," the presidential press
office told Interfax on Thursday in comments on the meeting.
Sargsyan and de Hoop Scheffer lauded the current level of NATO-
Armenia relations and the fulfillment of the Individual Partnership
Program. "They also acclaimed the recent NATO exercises in Armenia,"
the press office said.
De Hoop Scheffer and Sargsyan voiced the importance of regional
peace and stability and said that the political dialog was the only
acceptable way to resolve any problems.
The NATO chief welcomed progress in the Karabakh settlement and the
Armenian-Turkish dialog and voiced support to those processes.
Sargsyan also had a meeting with EU High Representative for the
Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana. "The sides said
that regional stability and peace were the main preconditions of
development and prosperity," the press office said.
"Solana expressed support to the Karabakh settlement negotiations
and the dialog between Armenia and Turkey," the press office said.
