Armenia, Sweden sign a Readmission Agreement

November 7-8 the Foreign Minister of Armenia Edaward Nalabndian visited
Sweden at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt.
The agenda of the meeting between Edward Nalbandian and Carl Bildt
included issues related to Armenian-Swedish bilateral relations, the
Armenia-EU cooperation, as well as a broad framework of regional and
international questions.
Turning to Armenian-Swedish relations, Minister Nalbandian noted that
Armenia is interested in developing cooperation with Sweden and good
preconditions exist for it.
During the conversation Ministers Nalbandian and Bildt discussed issues
connected with Armenia-EU cooperation, expressing appreciation for the
process of accomplishment of the Action Plan of the European
Neighborhood Policy. Edward Nalbandian presented to his Swedish
counterpart the results of RA President Serzh Sargsyan's visit to
Brussels and his meetings with leaders of EU structures.
The Ministers discussed the Polish-Swedish proposal of Eastern
Partnership. In this regard Minister Nalbandian noted that the Armenian
side positively assesses the initiative and anticipates to launch
discussions on the issue with partner countries and European
structures.
Minister Bildt noted, for his part, that the Polish-Swedish initiative
has been approved by the European Union and discussions on the issue
will be launched in the near future. He assured that during its
presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2009 Sweden will
pay serious attention to the relations with the countries of the South
Caucasus and accepted Minister Nalbandian's invitation to visit Armenia
before assuming EDU presidency.
At the request of the Foreign Minister of Sweden, Edward Nalbandian
presented the process of settlement of the Artsakh issue, expressing
hope that the Declaration signed by the President of Armenia,
Azerbaijan and Russia will provide an opportunity to activate the talks
and register progress.
The Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the opportunities of
normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations. Reference was made to
the events around South Ossetia.
The meeting of the Foreign Ministers was followed by a joint press
conference. An agreement on Readmission was signed between the Republic
of Armenia and the Kingdom of Sweden.
At midday the Foreign Minister of Sweden gave an official dinner in
honor of the Armenian counterpart.
