Police in Israel had to be called to The Church of the Holy Sepulchre
after a fight broke out among dozens of worshippers attending the
Feast of the Cross, meant to commemorate the discovery in the fourth
century of the cross used to crucify Jesus.
Punches and kicks were exchanged between Armenian and Greek Orthodox
dressed in vestments, toppling decorations and knocking down
tapestries. Two clerics were arrested after Israeli police entered
the shrine in Arab East Jerusalem.
Fighting among the Christian denominations in charge of maintaining
the site is common. Squabbling over who has the right to repair
