YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 11, NOYAN TAPAN. The chairmen of the Union of
Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia (UMBA) and the Union of
Manufacturers of Turkey are now taking steps to create conditions for
the direct export of Armenian goods to Turkey - without waiting for
interstate relations to be established and the border to be opened,
the UMBA chairman Arsen Ghazarian announced on November 11.
He explained that for example, ArmenAl's foil is currently exported
to Turkey through third countries, whereas this commodity is in great
demand in Turkey. "We should try to pass ahead of political figures
and faciliate their work," he said.
According to A. Ghazarian, Armenia is expected to have such a trade
regime with Turkey that will enable goods with Armenian certificates
to "directly enter the Turkish market". It is envisaged that the
respective agreements will be reached by late 2008.
