PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA GIVES INTERVIEW TO GERMAN NEWSPAPER

"We have never been thinking that Karabakh could stay in the frames
of Azerbaijan," says the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan in his
interview given to German "Frankfurter algemeine tseitung" newspaper,
and added: "We are thinking about providing such conditions to local
people to guarantee their future development. But it has been proven
for many times that in the frames of Azerbaijan it is impossible".
Serzh Sargsyan signified signing the Triple Declaration in Moscow
which excludes military activities to be used for the regulation
of the problem. "I am happy that Azerbaijan has signed a document
which recognizes all the international norms for the regulation of
the conflict, and not only the principle of territorial integrity,"
says the President.
To the question whether Armenia is ready to bring out its forces from
seven villages bordered to Azerbaijan, the President said: "The core
issue of the conflict is the status of Nagorno Karabakh. Azerbaijan
should recognize the self-determination right of Karabakh people. The
regulation of this point could follow regulation of some other
points. The control over those territories is not a pure mission for
us, it is to guarantee the security of Karabakh. Today we should
negotiate over the principles of the regulation and then sign the
basic peace treaty."
