and military cars are moving to the regions of Ghuba and Koosar of
South Lezgistan. The officially reported purpose is the search for
terrorists and weapon. The Azerbaijani troops are mostly active in
the direction of the village of Khazra, Koosar. The local police have
enhanced security.
Near the village of Khazra there were clashes between the Azerbaijani
force and Lezgi insurgents at the end of this summer and the beginning
of autumn.
At that time Azerbaijan lost one soldier.
For its part, Day.az reports that the Ministry of Internal Affairs
of Azerbaijan refuted the information about the military action near
the northern border.
And yesterday the Azerbaijani Zerkalo newspaper reported a special
operation of the internal forces of Azerbaijan near the border with
Russia against the religious extremists who have already fought in
Chechnya and Dagestan.
According to the newspaper, the group included Chechens and Afghans
and local people. Although few in number, the group resisted, and the
insurgents having military experience in high mountainous regions,
escaped the chase.
