ArmInfo. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan called success of the
Armenian chess players in the Olympiad in Dresden a victory of the
team unity. 'We are a small people, and it is important for us to be
more recognizable in the world. A serious step was made today on this
way', the Armenian president told journalists in Dresden.
He said that the team will be back to Yerevan on November 26. 'If we
returned today, we would arrive in Armenia late at night, however, it
is incorrect to bother the people late at night as our chess players
will be greeted by the whole people', S. Sargsyan said. He noted that
chess gained popularity in Armenia after the victories of the ninth
World champion Tigran Petrosyan. 'Everyone started to play chess in
Armenia after Tigran Petrosyan', S. Sargsyan emphasized.
To recall, the Armenian men's team got the victory over the Chinese
chess players in the final round of the World Chess Olympiad
in Dresden and has become the Olympic Champion the second time
in succession. President of Armenia was in Dresden to support the
Armenian chess players.
