FIDE PRESIDENT: ARMENIA PLAYS AN ESSENTIAL ROLE IN CHESS WORLD

Ilyumzhinov warmly congratulated the President of Armenia Serzh
Sargsyan and the Armenian chess players on their second consecutive
victory in the Chess Olympiad. He noted that the Armenian chess
players play an essential role in the chess world and the Olympic
victories in Turin and Dresden are brilliant evidences of it.
According to the Vice-President of the Chess Federation of Armenia,
Grand Master Smbat Lputyan, usually sportsmen from big countries
manage to achieve such success. The second victory of the Armenian
chess players and the 6th place of the women's team speak about the
stable success of Armenian chess.
According to German press, the victory of the Armenian chess team was
quite logical. From the very beginning till the end of the tournament
the Armenian chess players were in the lead, being the main contenders
for the Olympic gold. The Armenian team gained 19 points from 22
possible, celebrating a "clear" victory.
