During his inaugural speech on October 24 the president of Azerbaijan
Ilham Aliyev stated that Karabakh will never be independent, Azerbaijan
will never recognize the independence of Karabakh. Aliyev stated
that the talks for the Karabakh conflict are based on the principle
of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
"The efforts made so far have strengthened our position. Today there
is the understanding in the world that the conflicts in this region
should be settled. It can take place only in the framework of the
international law.
It may be only in the framework of the territorial integrity of
Azerbaijan," Aliyev stated. He said Azerbaijan will never agree to the
secession of its native territories. "By strengthening our territorial
integrity we will reach the return of the occupied territories,"
Ilham Aliyev stated, noting that as long as the territories have not
been returned, cooperation with Armenia is impossible.
At the same time, Ilham Aliyev said the potential of peace talks has
not worn out yet. "We are now interested in the continuation of the
talks, our hope is still alive, we still think that the talks will
end in a fair solution," Aliyev underlined, noting that the opposite
side should accept the reality.
"And the reality is that today it is highly difficult to compete
with Azerbaijan. I would even say it is impossible. Our economic and
political potential, the economic capacity, the international law and
justice are on our side, strengthening our position. I am sure that
thanks to all those factors and our active, persistent policy our
territories will be liberated," Ilham Aliyev stated, Regnum reports.
