YEREVAN, OCTOBER 23, NOYAN TAPAN. The holding of the Global Innovation
Forum for Education and Development with the assistance of the Global
Alliance for ICT and Development of the UN Department of Economic and
Social Affairs and ATHGO International organization bears evidence
of efficient cooperation between Armenia and the UN, the RA Deputy
Foreign Minister Gegham Gharibjanian stated when receiving the
Deputy Secretary General of the UN Cheick Sidi Diarra on October
22. He underlined that the Armenian leadership is interested in the
implementation of programs worked out in cooperation with the UN,
and in the development of new directions of cooperation.
According to the RA MFA Press and Information Department, during the
meeting the sides discussed the issues related to ensuring stable
communication of landlocked countries with the outside world. In this
connection they attached great importance to the regional cooperation,
the involvement of all countries and the participation of transit
countries in the solution of problems of landlocked countries.
G. Gharibjanian said that Armenia often encounters a situation when due
to political motives, economically viable, beneficial and politically
provident projects are replaced with ones conducive to the drawing
of diving lines in the region, which hinders the implementation of
regional development programs developed within the framework of the
UN. Such a conduct should not receive support of any international
organization, first of all, the UN. The deputy foreign minister
expressed a hope that the UN, in particular, C.S.
Diarra who is the UN High Representative for Landlocked Developing
Countries, will make their contribution to the development and
diversification of Armenia's external communications.
