ARMENIA HAS DEMONSTRATED DECISIVENESS IN FULFILLING EUROPEAN NEIGHBORHOOD POLICY ACTION PLAN, FRENCH AMBASSADOR TO ARMENIA SAYS

ArmInfo. Armenia has demonstrated decisiveness in fulfilling the
European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan, French Ambassador to Armenia
Serge Smessow said at an international conference in Yerevan. The
event was devoted to the 2nd anniversary of the European Neighborhood
Policy Action Plan in Armenia.
The key goal of the Neighborhood Policy in Armenia is to support the
reforms initiated and implemented by the Armenian authorities. Since
the moment of signing the European Neighborhood Policy, the relations
of the parties as well as the political dialogue of Armenia and the
European Commission have become stronger. He said that 1 million
euro were allocated to Armenia under the program for development of
democratic structures, maintenance of legal order and protection
of human freedoms and rights, development of civil society and
reduction of poverty in the country as well as improvement of the
judicial system. S. Smessow said Armenia has achieved progress in
strengthening local self-government system. Nevertheless, he said,
the post-election period in the country reveal some omissions and the
necessity to improve the system to guarantee media freedom and more
effectively fight corruption. In addition, the French diplomat called
very urgent the fulfillment of amendments to the election legislation.
