Armenian Church Honors AJC for Longstanding Friendship

September 9, 2008 ` New York ` The Armenian Church has presented the
American Jewish Committee (AJC) with a gold Kiddish cup, a Jewish
ceremonial goblet, in appreciation of the long, positive history of
close ties between the Armenian and Jewish peoples.

"When I look in the dark eyes of a beautiful Jewish child, I see the
eyes of an Armenian child. Thank God that the suffering of our
children is so much less than it once was," Archbishop Vicken Aykazian
said in his address to AJC's Board of Governors, who met in New York
earlier this week. The Archbishop spoke warmly of the shared
experiences of Armenians and Jews, and praised AJC's role in deepening
    the relationship.

Aykazian, who represents the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America
(Eastern), is also currently serving as President the National Council
    of Churches USA.

The kiddish cup originally was given to Ambassador Peter Rosenblatt, a
member of the AJC Board from Washington, D.C., during his visit to
Armenia in May. Rosenblatt has been a leading AJC representative in
dialogue with Armenian political and religious leadership, and has
    traveled to Armenia several times.

During his meeting with his Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians, Rosenblatt accepted the gift on behalf of
AJC. The cup will be prominently displayed at AJC headquarters.

Joining in the event at the AJC Board meeting were Fr. Haigazoun
Najarian, who was representing the Primate of the Armenian Church of
America, and Rabbi David Rosen, AJC's International Director of
    Interreligious Affairs.
