RE-REGISTRATION OF HOMELESS FAMILIES TO BE COMPLETED ON NOVEMBER 1

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 12, NOYAN TAPAN. At the September 11 sitting,
the Armenian government approved the draft decision on establishing
the deadline for re-registration of the families in the settlements
of the earthquake zone and on making additions and amendments to the
RA governmental decision No 432 of June 10, 1999. The RA minister of
urban development Vardan Vardanian said following the sitting that
based on the decision, November 1, 2008 has been established as the
deadline for re-registration of the homeless families in the earthquake
zone. He underlined that knowing the exact number of homeless families
is important in terms of ensuring the efficiency of the programs on
solution of housing problems of such families.
The minister said that 6,875 homeless families are currently
registered. It is planned to build 4,200 apartments in Shirak marz
(including 3,000 in the city of Gyumri) and 1,805 ones in Lori marz
to provide such families with apartments.
