DMITRY MEDVEDEV HELD TALKS WITH PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV

Moscow. ">OREANDA-NEWS . September 16, 2008. One of the main topics
of discussion was the situation in the Caucasus. Dmitry Medvedev
informed Ilham Aliyev of the steps taken by Russia to ensure security
in the Southern Caucasus. In a press statement following the meeting,
the President of Russia referred to Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation
as a key factor for maintaining stability in the region.
With regards to a Nagorno-Karabakh settlement Dmitry Medvedev said
that Russia is ready to continue to provide the greatest possible
assistance in finding a mutually acceptable solution to this complex
issue, and expressed support for the continuation of direct talks
between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Russian head of state expressed his satisfaction with the dynamic
development of cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan. Ilham Aliev
also gave a positive evaluation of Azerbaijans ties with Russia in
trade, economic, cultural and educational spheres.
