YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 16, NOYAN TAPAN. "Opposition's main goal is to
strengthen people's movement, in no case damaging state's and people's
interests," opposition leader, first RA President Levon Ter-Petrosian
stated at the September 15 rally of the Armenian National Congress
held with the participation of many thousand people. He stressed
that the opposition has chosen the way of legal struggle, and no
one is able to make it lose its temper and move the struggle to the
"field of rude force" beneficial for the authorities. "We will not
give that pleasure to anyone," the first President said and called
those present to be patient and to adopt a position proper to a winner.
Touching upon the situation in the country, L. Ter-Petrosian
said that it has not changed and remains the same in any sphere,
including economic, social, human rights, and others. According to
him, it is the close circle of Robert Kocharian that spreads rumors
on Robert Kocharian's return to politics and these rumors are first
of all aimed against Serzh Sargsyan. In particular, according to
L. Ter-Petrosian, they say that S. Sargsyan is a weak President and
will soon lose his power, and the only way to retain the regime is
R. Kocharian's return to politics, as only he can control the situation
in Armenia. "S. Sargsyan realizes that if he appoints R. Kocharian
Prime Minister, he will become English Queen, as R. Kocharian never
shares the power," he said.
Levon Zurabian, the Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress
Center, spoke at the end of the rally and said that next opposition
rally will take place two days before the election of Kentron prefect,
on September 26. By the way, the People's Movement attaches much
importance to that election.
And movement's main slogan, according to L. Zurabian, is as before
S. Sargsyan's resignation.
