ArmInfo. Armenia will sooner or later join NATO after long way and
maneuvering between Moscow, Washington, Ankara and Tehran, says
Stepan Grigoryan, Head of the Analytical Center for Globalization
and Regional Cooperation.
'The matter is whether NATO will stay in the region or not by that
time.
Given the last steps by NATO, I mean the traveling session in Tbilisi,
NATO has no intention to yield Georgia. USA does the same. United
States piloted their heaviest vessels through Bosphorus for the first
time in history, and are not likely to withdraw them', S. Grigoryan
told ArmInfo.
He says it was Russia's steps that have led to direct presence of the
USA in the Black Sea for earlier Turkish Navy was the only presence
of NATO in the Black Sea. As a result, he says, the balance of forces
in the Black Sea has considerably changed.
There will be transitional period and in the long-term outlook
Armenia will become a member of NATO. Georgia has practically joined
NATO and we have nothing to do with that. It is quite another matter
that it must be done very carefully. We have Georgia's example and
we saw whatat the hasty steps of Georgia's leadership have led to,
S. Grigoryan says.
