AUTHORITIES ARE UNITED, WHILE NUMBER OF OPPOSITION RALLIES' PARTICIPANTS BECOMES SMALLER AND SMALLER, ARTUR BAGHDASARIAN SAYS

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, NOYAN TAPAN. A stable political team, coalition,
which is ready to implement the most ambitious programs, has been
formed in Armenia at present. Artur Baghdasarian, the Secretary of the
National Security Council, the leader of the Orinats Yerkir (Country
of Law) party, stated at the September 18 press conference. According
to him, besides the fact that the coalition is stable and united,
President Serzh Sargsyan is also a well-prepared political figure and a
good friend. Under the new authorities, according to A. Baghdasarian,
the stage of implementation of system reforms has started in Armenia,
struggle has been launched against corruption and shady economy,
complex programs of restoration of earthquake zone and development
of regions are implemented.
In the days of aggravation of the Russian-Georgian conflict, according
to the Secretary of the National Security Council, everything was
done in Armenia to keep the country away from clashes. According to
him, one of President's new initiatives in the sphere of foreign
policy is improval of Armenian-Turkish relations. A. Baghdasarian
added that such policy showed that Armenia's neighbors are not its
rivals. Meanwhile he said that Turkey cannot be a mediator in the
Nagorno Karabakh problem: it is a different matter that this country
wishes to provide assistance to the conflict sides.
Touching upon the assertion of opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrosian
that the power pyramid is cracking, A. Baghdasarian stated that
first President's this and all other assertions do not correspond to
reality. "The authorities are united, while the number of opposition
rallies' participants becomes smaller and smaller," he said.
