Speaking at the 63d session of the UN General Assembly Tuesday
Turkey's President Abdullah Gul raised the issue of the Karabakh
conflict resolution, Turkish President's Press Service reported.
Gul noted that Turkey's initiate of creating a Cooperation
and Stability Platform in the Caucasus "has great objectives and
perspectives, and the realization of the idea will contribute not only
to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, but also the solution of
other frozen conflicts."
Noting that Turkey has not been represented at the UN Security Council
for more than 50 years, Gul asked the General Assembly to support
Turkey's bid for membership in 2009-2010.
In his speech Gul turned to the negotiation process between the Turkish
and Greek communities of Cyprus, reminding that Turkey supports all
efforts targeted at the creation of a joint state on the Iceland.
