PRESIDENT SARGSYAN'S MEETINGS IN NEW YORK

RA President Serzh Sargsyan, who visits New York to participate in
the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly, had a meeting with the
Prime Minister of the Netherlands Jan Peter Balkenend. The parties
highly assessed the level of political dialogue between Armenia and the
Netherlands and expressed interest in deepening the relations. Serzh
Sargsyan thanked the Dutch Government for the technical assistance
rendered to Armenia and said the economic cooperation has good
perspectives. Holland is the second country in the European Union
with regard to the volume of commodity turnover with Armenia, and
Armenia is a member of the "Dutch Group" of the World Bank.
RA President thanked the Prime Minister of Holland for the balanced
position on the Karabakh conflict settlement. Serzh Sargsyan informed
Jan Peter Balkenend about the visit of the Turkish President to Armenia
at his invitation. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands welcomed
the dialogue launched between Armenia and Turkey. Turning to the
discussion of the Armenian Genocide issue at the Dutch Parliament, the
Prime Minister noted: "We are, of course, well aware of the Genocide,
and it's important to be fair and honest with history.
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands expressed gratitude to the
Armenian President for supporting the Dutch citizens during the
Georgian-Ossetian confl ict, due to which hundreds of Dutch citizens
managed to return to Motherland through Armenian territory.
Serzh Sargsyan invited the Prime Minister of the Netherlands to
visit Armenia, saying it will facilitate the further deepening of
the political dialogue between the parties.
