Turkey
Presidential candidate of the U.S. Democrat Party, Barack Obama,
described Turkish President Abdullah Gul's recent meeting with his
Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan as "a hopeful step"
and praised this meeting.
The step taken by Turkish and Armenian leaders could bring
normalization that would be welcomed with pleasure, Obama said in
a message released on the occasion of the anniversary of Armenia's
independence, Anatolian Agency reported.
A warmer period began between Turkey and Armenia, who for more than a
decade have not had any diplomatic relations, after Turkish President
Abdullah Gul paid a landmark visit to Armenia early September.
Turkey hopes this period would lead to the normalization of the
relations. Turkey and Armenia do not have diplomatic relations because
of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan.
