HIS HOLINESS ARAM I RECEIVES THE BISHOP OF COPENHAGEN
His Holiness Aram I yesterday received the Bishop of Copenhagen, Erik Norman
Svendsen in Antelias. Bishop Svendsen was accompanied by a delegation of
representatives from various church related organizations, as well as
university professors. The delegation is visiting the Middle East to get
better acquainted with Christian communities and particularly
Christian-Muslim coexistence.
The Armenian Pontiff and the Danish delegation met for about an hour,
discussing issues related to the Christian-Muslim dialogue and general
cooperation between the two religions. His Holiness briefed his guests on
the current situation of the Christian-Muslim coexistence, stressing the
need for highlighting the common values of the two monotheistic religions.
His Holiness then responded to the questions from the delegation.
A special bond exists between the Catholicosate of Cilicia and the Lutheran
Church of Denmark- the country's national church. The firm ties between the
two churches go back to the period of the Armenian Genocide when the Danish
Church provided significant humanitarian aid by establishing various
institutions for this purpose, such as the Birds' Nest.
The delegation members then visited the Birds' Nest, where they were
welcomed by the management and the board of trustees. Although many of the
delegation's members were already familiar with the Birds' Nest, the visit
became an opportunity to acquire further information about the institution
and its work.
