3 April: The opening of the Armenian-Turkish border can never meet
Azerbaijan's interests and will do our state no good, Azerbaijan's
Parliament Speaker Oqtay Asadov said at a parliament session today
    [3 April].

Many political analysts and politicians in Azerbaijan are trying to
speak about advantages and disadvantages which the opening of the
border between Armenia and Turkey may bring to our state. My personal
pinion is that the opening of the border will not do Azerbaijan good
and does not meet our interests, he stressed.

He added that an international conference involving representatives
of political parties and of the Turkish parliament would soon be held
in Baku to discuss the issue.

In addition, our woman MPs have received an invitation from the Turkish
parliament to visit Turkey and discuss the issue there, Asadov said.

In turn, MP Iqbal Agazada, head of the [opposition] Hope party,
suggested holding a closed parliament sitting during which the MPs
would be informed about the real state of affairs in the peace talks
regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagornyy Karabakh. We
want to know what positive and negative points the mediators' proposals
    contain for Azerbaijan, he said.
