    WB EXPERT FORECASTS IMPROVEMENT OF ARMENIAN ECONOMY IN 6-9 MONTHS

    YEREVAN, April 2. /ARKA/. The economical situation in Armenia amid
    global financial an economic crisis will significantly improve in 6-9
    months, said Lev Freinkman, the senior economist of the World Bank's
    (WB) Russian office.

    During conference "Spurring regional cooperation through information
    technologies" in Yerevan on Thursday, Freinkman stated the situation
    will be better than it is forecast, despite predicted GDP decline in
    Armenia in 2009.

    According to him there are different opinions on how much the crisis
    will affect Russia and Armenia.

    He noted some experts believe the country's economy will fail, the
    others, including himself, are more optimistic.

    Freinkman believes the fact that Russia will soon overcome the crisis
    and will support CIS countries, specifically Armenia.

    He said Russia has great currency reserves, besides prices for oil
    and situation on market of assets stabilize, and Russia will soon
    overcome the crisis.

    According to specified Monetary and Credit Policy of the Central
    Bank of Armenia for the first quarter of 2009, the GDP of Armenia
    will decrease in real terms by 3% in 2009.
