DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
National Assembly of RA
April 7 2009
Armenia
On April 6 the Chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal
Affairs of the National Assembly, Head of the Armenian Parliament in
PACE Mr Davit Harutyunyan received the representatives of the European
Parliament, who arrived in Armenia to take part in the 10th meeting of
Armenia-European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. Mr Avet
Adonts, Co-Chair of Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee,
also attended the meeting. The issues were related to the amendments
of Articles 225 and 300 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of
Armenia, and the inviolability of the arrested deputies of the
National Assembly.
Touching upon the issues concerning the guests the Chairman of the
Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Mr Davit Harutyunyan said
that the amendments of those articles of the Criminal Code were not
envisaged, but as the Monitoring Committee of the Council of Europe
noted works could be carried out in that direction. Speaking about
revising the decision of depriving of inviolability of the deputies
of the National Assembly as a result of legislative amendments, Mr
Harutyunyan noted that the amendments of the Criminal Code had an
impact on the criminal process but they don't act on the plane of
the constitutional law.
Mr Avet Adonts, Co-Chair of Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation
Committee, ensured that Armenia was on the way of overcoming the
difficulties. The parliamentarians of the Council of Europe who follow
the ongoing processes in Armenia confirm this fact.
At the meeting other issues were also discussed.
