One year ago, on 9 April, 2008, the third President of the Republic
of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan's inauguration took place. Since then Serzh
Sargsyan has accepted the post of the head of the state. In these
days it seems everybody, the politicians, the political experts,
the analysts, the intellectuals and the ordinary citizens, is busy
with analyzing and summarizing the year which has passed. People
chose different methods to share their opinions with the others
- publishing stories, broadcasting programs, talking with their
relatives or neighbors. They are trying to recollect in their minds
all the achievements and the gaps made or left in one year.
Currently, we'll be trying to make such an attempt with a difference
that we are not going to evaluate the President's steps and efforts,
as we have already done it in our previous publications and, besides,
one year is too short to make definite assessments. Hence, we prefer
quite a different method. We are going to compare the Armenia when
President Serzh Sargsyan accepted to rule and the Armenia we live
in today. Remember, that Serzh Sargsyan accepted his post when the
society was separated. The President himself pointed this fact out a
year ago and stressed in his first speech addressed to the public to
join. In fact, this was the most significant challenge to meet - to
join the separated society and "to break the wall of not understanding"
as the President said. The post electoral situation in the country
and especially 1 March events have minimized the society's belief and
reliability towards the state and authorities. A year ago an important
question was being asked whether the President could overcome those
challenges, confront the created situation and keep ruling. In this
regard, currently, the situation has much changed. Of course, it
is difficult to name and stress certain things, but one can be said
for sure, there is no panic and tension. Some splitting is not yet
overcome but the mass tension and rejection is no more ruling. It is
for sure, due to the President's significant role. Today the tension
is minimized due to the President's tolerance, patience and indulgence.
