AZERBAIJAN TO CHAIR BLACK SEA ECONOMIC CLUB

Azerbaijan will take over the chair of the Organization of Black
Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) at an April 16 meeting of foreign
ministers in Yerevan.
Top-level diplomats from the 12 participating states from Black Sea
and the Balkans are expect to discuss energy development issues,
as well as the potential expansion of BSEC ties with the European
Union. Azerbaijan is set to chair the BSEC from May through October
of 2009. Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev is to lead the
Azerbaijani delegation to the meeting in Yerevan.
Azerbaijan of late has expressed support for a Russian-sponsored
initiative to create a Caspian Basin organization that is analogous
to the BSEC.
