ArmInfo. The possible term of opening of the Armenian-Turkish border
is October, 2009, when president of Armenia visits Turkey, Director
of the European Programmes of the International Crisis Group (ICG)
Sabina Freiser said, Radio Liberty reports.
According to her, Ankara is rather seriously involved in the
negotiation process with Armenia and shows interest in normalization
of the relations.
This process started not yesterday as the negotiations between Yerevan
and Ankara have been passing in different formats for many years,
primarily, in a secret format in Switzerland. Having touched on the
issue of possible recognition of the Armenian Genocide by US president,
S. Freiser said if Barack Obama says a word Genocide on April 24,
it will negatively affect the results of negotiations on settlement
of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
As S. Freiser said, it is unnecessary for the USA or France to
interpret the history of Turkey. According to her, the authorities
and the public opinion of Turkey are able to draw such conclusions
by themselves. She emphasized that adoption of any resolutions at
present may have only a negative affect as this will strengthen the
positions of the Turkish nationalists being strongly against any
display of the Genocide recognition.
