AZERBAIJAN "CONFIDENT" IN KARABAKH TALKS DUE TO RUSSIAN SUPPORT

    Haykakan Zhamanak
    April 21 2009
    Armenia

Excerpt from Manvel Manvelyan's report in Armenian newspaper Haykakan
Zhamanak on 21 April headlined "The issue of the status has been
    delayed"

The processes taking place recently around the Karabakh settlement have
reached a new stage. This time as well the process is taking place
without the participation of the Armenian side and is connected with
the 16-17 April visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Moscow.

It is noteworthy and very worrying in this regard that after Aliyev's
visit to Moscow the Azerbaijani side feels extremely confident. It is
not difficult to guess that this self-confidence is connected with
Moscow's pro-Azerbaijani position regarding the Nagornyy Karabakh
issue. This can be seen from the statements of Azerbaijani officials.
