Russian-Turkish closeness to impact positively peaceable solution of
    Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Azerbaijani MP

    Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.7 / Trend News J.Babayeva /

Azerbaijani MP Mubariz Gurbanli believes that the Russian-Turkish
proximity will impact positively the peaceable solution of the
    [Armenian-Azerbaijani] Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Turkey and Russia closely cooperate in settlement of international
issues. The Russia-Turkish proximity will impact positively peaceable
solution of conflicts in the South Caucasus, including the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The expand of the Russian-Turkish relations
serve as ground to peace and stability on the South Caucasus and
Middle East, Deputy executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party
    (NAP), Mubariz Gurbanli said.

During his visit to Turkey Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin
stated the serious and active work for the resolution of the
    [Armenian-Azerbaijani] Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Turkish news
    agencyANADOLUreported.

"Serious work is being done to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
and there is serious progress in this direction. Moscow is eager to
see rapid resolution of the conflict," Putin added.

Putin said his country is unwilling to see any conflict in the
Caucasus. "Conflict in the Caucasus casts shadow on our relations with
the countries of the region," he stressed.

The prime minister said that Russia's position on the solution of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remained unchanged. "We cannot do the job of
conflict sides, but only assist in the solution to the dispute," he
    added.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan
lost all of Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojali in December
1991. In 1992-93, Armenian armed forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and 7
districts surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed
a ceasefire in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia,
France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Over the past few years the Russian-Turkish bilateral relations have
developed rapidly and they affect different spheres. It is evident
that economy is the main object in the Russian-Turkish relations. At
present, the many Turkish companies participate in realization of
    significant projects in Russia, Gurbanli.
