"Sargis Tkhruni", a student-youth union of social-democratic hnchakyan
party, today has held a conference under the heading "Armenian-Turkish
Relations: Past and Future".
"National bodies and institutions abroad are against any compromise in
Armenian-Turkish relations",-opened his speech, named "The Apprehension
of Armenian-Turkish Relations in Diaspora", Sedrak Atjemyan, the
assessor of the central board of the social-democratic party.
Mr Atjemyan mentioned that their purpose is to clarify the issues
and express their points of view at the conference.
He mentioned that all the institutions abroad, no matter a party
member or not, are devoted to the process of recognition of Armenian
Genocide in the world.
Richard Kirakosyan, the head of the military and national research
center, Manvel Sargsyan, an expert, Ruben Melqonyan, senior lecturer
at the chair of Turkish Studies at the State University, Doctor of
Philology, and Stepan Safaryan, a member of the parliament, also made
reports at the conference.
"The institutions abroad expected US president Barack Obama to
mention the word "genocide" at his speech on April 24th",-said Mr
Atjemyan, thinking that this did not happen for " some troubleshooting
phenomena".
The assessor of the party also made reference to the problem of opening
the border between Armenia and Turkey and to Armenian discussions. He
mentioned that closed borders are unacceptable in a civilized world,
and recorded that closing the border was Turkey's initiative, and he
finds it strange that Armenians talk about opening the border.
"Turkey closed the border and they must be the first to think about
the opening. They must take into account if the Armenians would want to
open the border and what would Armenians say if they open the border",
- went into details S. Atjemyan.
He also mentions that he does not consider profitable the opening of
the border, as the political authorities of Armenia do.
"First of all, Armenia should be up in arms and ready to stand such
phenomena. Let that border close, Armenia should think about the
Diaspora, about strengthening the relations with it and improving
our economic situation", - summarized Mr. Atjemyan.
Armenia should not think about limited problems, but pan-Armenian
problems. He called for organizing a "serious pan-Armenian body",
where serious projects would come true, where each organization
included would be responsible not for making speeches but for steps.
In conclusion Mr. Atjemyan said that Diaspora is a part of a
motherland, and the motherland is above everything and everybody if
aware of all the points of view of its organizations.
