Boston - This summer, over 250 outstanding middle-school students
from across the United States took part in a leadership conference
in Boston. Vemir Ambartsoumean of Dumont, N.J., was among them.

Sponsored by the nonpartisan Congressional Youth Leadership Council,
an independent educational organization based in Vienna, Va., the
Junior National Young Leaders Conference Alumni Boston introduces
young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American
history while helping them develop their own leadership skills.

During the six-day conference, Vemir and the other students took part
in educational activities, explored fundamental aspects of leadership,
and connected them to American historical events. The Colonial and
Revolutionary periods offered examples of courage and perseverance
that students could apply to their own lives.

Continuing their leadership studies from last year's program
in Washington, the middle-schoolers visited historical sites
such as Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower II, Salem, Boston's
Freedom Trail, Lexington, and Concord. An overnight stay aboard the
U.S.S. Massachusetts battleship in Fall River made a suitably large
    impression on the group.

"I made so many wonderful friends that it was hard to say goodbye,
even after the few days I was there," Vamir said. "I can't wait to
    attend next year's conference!"
