    THE MONTHLY AVERAGE SALARY OF EMPLOYEE IN THE BANKING SYSTEM OF ARMENIA IN THE FIRST QUARTER HALF-YEAR 2009 AMOUNTED TO $733

    ArmInfo. According to the results of the first half-year 2009, the
    monthly average salary of employee in the banking system of Armenia
    amounted to 264 thsd drams or $733. According to the analysis and
    ranking of Armenian commercial banks prepared by Arminfo, if compared
    with 2008 this indicator reduced by 2,1%. The summary expenditure of
    commercial banks for the salary of the bank workers amounted to 12.9
    bln drams (435.9 mln with annual growth by 4%) in the first half-year
    2009. The total number of workers was 8175 in the banking system
    (annual growth by 6,7%).

    The highest average salary of an employee over the reported period
    was fixed at ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - $1.4 thsd or 492 thsd drams,
    with an annual growth by 11,1% (total number of employees of the bank
    amounted to 719 with annual growth by 8,3%). Then comes HSBC Bank
    Armenia - $1.3 thsd or 486 thsd drams, with annual falling by 10,3%
    (total number of the bank employees grew by 4% if compared with 2008
    and amounted to 389). occupies the third place - $1.2 thsd or 433 thsd
    drams, with annual growth by 15% (total number of employees amounted
    to 89 with annual falling by 17,6%). Mellat bank is the forth - $1.2
    thsd or 414 thsd drams, with annual falling by 10,4% (total number of
    the bank employees amounted to 38 with annual growth by 2,7%). And
    Ameriabank is the fifth - $1.1 thsd or 406 thsd drams with annual
    growth by 14,4% (total number of the bank employees amounted to 81
    with annual falling by 3,6%). If compared with 2008 ProCredit Bank
    is the leader by the average monthly salary of an employee - by 30,8%
    up to 255 thsd drams or $707, the number of the employees of which is
    222 with annual growth by 19,4%. Falling of the average monthly salary
    was fixed at 10 banks, most of all at - by 38,1% to 264 thsd drams
    ($733), and the number of its employees grew by 0,5% up to 443 people.

    Maximal number of employees was fixed at Ardshininvestbank - 1045
    with annual falling by 8,7% (average monthly salary amounted to
    $545 or 196 thsd drams), VTB-Armenia is the second - 916 with annual
    falling by 6,1% ($547 or 197 thsd drams), ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank
    is the third - 719 with annual growth by 8,3% ($1.4 or 492 thsd
    drams), Armeconombank is the forth - 682 with annual falling by 3,8%
    ($578 or 208 thsd drams) and Converse Bank is the fifth - 571 with
    annual growth by 24% ($671 or 242 thsd drams). Maximal number of
    employees is explained by the number of these banks offices, by the
    number of which VTB-Armenia is the first, Ardshininvestbank - the
    second, ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - the third and Armeconombank -
    the forth. The minimal number of employees was fixed at bank - 38
    (with annual growth by 2,7%), the bank occupies the forth position
    by the average monthly salary of an employee - $1.2 thsd or 414 thsd
    drams. Ameriabank is the leader with the annual growth of this index,
    as the number of its employees grew by 115 up to 189 with monthly
    salary $1.1 thsd or 387 thsd drams (annual falling by 37,2%).

    According to the results of the first half-year 2009 ACBA Cerdit
    Agricole Bank is the leader by the level of salary expenditure - 2.1
    bln drams ($5.9 mln, Ardshininvestbank is the second - 1.2 bln drams
    ($3.4 mln) and - the third - 1.1 bln ($3.2 mln).

    Axing of the number of employees at 22 acting commercial banks was
    fixed at 5 banks if compared with the same period of 2008 - Byblos
    Bank Armenia (by 17,6%), Ardshininvestbank (by 8,7%), VTB-Armenia
    (by 6,1%), Armeconombank (by 3,8%) and Armswissbank (by 3,6%),
    which against the background of the crisis is conditioned either by
    reduction of the bank offices or optimization of the staff.
