BATUM, AUGUST 27, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. The Union of Armenians
of Ajaria turns 5.
The Armenian community of Ajaria has a population of over 12 000
people, most of which, more than 9 500 live in Ajaria's capital city,
Batum. The Union of Armenians of Ajaria headed by Grigor Vardanian
has over 300 members, and 150 young people are members of the Youth
Union under the Union.
The Union of Armenians of Ajaria works rather actively. According to
a report received from the Union, it holds nearly 200 events a year,
which are periodically covered by mostly Georgian central television,
radio, and media.
The Union works much to consolidate the Armenians and to settle the
problems emerging in the community.
