RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan visited Original Distillery Company
Ltd to assess the compliance with Premier's recommendations aimed at
enhancing efficiency in importer-distributor activities, as well as
supporting domestic producers.
Answering journalists' questions, the Prime Minister said in
particular: "I am glad to state that the last February meeting with
the importers has brought about a good result. This enterprise was
just launched 4 months ago in response to the government's call,
and I deem it important.
First of all because we are thereby reducing the level of vodka imports
Strong with 80 jobs already created, the factory is set to expand
up to 200 jobs available. Secondly, market competition will ensure
higher quality for Armenian vodkas, which is crucial from a public
health care perspective. And finally, the Company is going to export
part of its output toward neighboring countries, Russia and Ukraine,
which means that its products must live up to the competition on the
local markets."
Asked about foreign brand imitation incidences in Armenia, Tigran
Sargsyan said in particular: "The commission on economic competition
has been receiving calls to that effect. A new strategy is under
design with a view to enhancing the functionality of the commission
and promoting legislative initiatives authorizing it to penalize
offenders and take preventive action against brand imitations. This
is an inadmissible and dangerous practice, and we are intent on
both resorting to stricter control over manufacturing processes and
strengthening preventive action against mismanagement," stated the
Prime Minister of Armenia.
