"PRESS CLUB" CYCLE: LEGISLATION ON FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY
On December 1, another "Press Club" show went on the air of "Yerkir Media"
TV company. The cycle is produced under Yerevan Press Club project,
supported by the Open Society Institute. The guests of the program host, YPC
President Boris Navasardian were Karen Mehrabian, Deputy Chief of RA Police
Department on Public Order Protection, Eduard Vardanian, Deputy Chief of RA
Police Department on Legal Protection, and Robert Revazian, lawyer of
Helsinki Committee of Armenia. The discussion centered on the application of
the RA Law "On Conducting Meetings, Assemblies, Rallies and Demonstrations".
The next "Press Club" show will be aired on "Yerkir Media" on December 8, at
21.15.
FOI CENTER SUIT ON PROVIDING MEDICAL INFORMATION
On December 2 court of general jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash
communities of Yerevan started hearing the case on the suit of Freedom of
Information Center versus Clinic No.2 LTD. On June 10, 2009 FOI Center
addressed to the Clinic, requesting to provide information about the
procedure of drug allocation to children under 7 years, as well as a number
of other issues concerning free drugs for children. Having no reply, FOI
Center filed a suit obliging the Clinic to provide the requested
information, and bring its Head Tigran Khachatrian to administrative
responsibility by a fine of 50,000 AMD (about $ 130).
At the session of December 2 the representative of Clinic No.2 gave reply to
the request. The judge granted time for its review by the plaintiff.
OPPOSITION MEDIA NOT INVITED
The list of media, invited for covering the congress of November 28 of the
Republican Party of Armenia (included in the ruling coalition), did not
contain the representatives of a number of opposition newspapers, in
particular, "Hraparak", "Haykakan Zhamanak", "Hayk", "Chorrord
Ishkhanutiun", "Taregir". This was reported in "Hraparak" daily on December
1, 2009.
