About $16 million was raised during the recurrent Telethon of the
Hayastan All Armenian Fund held in Los Angeles on November 26. At it
has been previously announced, most of the money will be allocated
to the reconstruction of Shoushi. "The participation was really
pan-Armenian," Executive Director of the Hayastan Fund Ara Vardanyan
told a press conference today.
According to Ara Vardanyn, the number of Armenian businessmen
participating in the fund-raising increases year by year. "If you take
the results of five years ago, you'll see that Armenian businessmen
did not participate at all," he said.
There is no official in Armenia that would not have participated in
this year's Telethon, Ara Vardanyan said.
"We have received $8 100 from the President's Office. As usual,
the second president of Armenia has transferred his salary. His son,
Sedrak Kocharyan, has donated 1 mln AMD. The first president has not
transferred any sum so far," Ara Vardanyan informed.
