Arif Yunusov Azerbaijan must voice its opinion on this issue on the
official level in the face of the Foreign Ministry.
Political scientist Arif Yunusov commenting on the map posted at
the website of the Freedom House, an international nongovernmental
organization, which indicates Nagorno Karabakh as a disputed area
between Azerbaijan and Armenia said, Georgia has always showed a
prompt reaction to such facts towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"Azerbaijan has long been ignoring such actions, but we should not
keep eyes close on these facts. On the other hand, these are double
standards. For example, when Russia started to issue passports to
the citizens of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Georgia started to react
promptly. In the result, when the citizens of these regions wanted
to go abroad, they went to Moscow, for example, to the embassy of
Britain to get a visa. The British embassy in turn sent them to
Tbilisi and said: "You are the citizens of Georgia and you have not
been recognized by anyone", he said.
The political scientist considers that Nagorno Karabakh residents
also go abroad but with Armenian passports.
"We have never paid attention to it. When I was in Vienna, I bought
a map of the South Caucasus which showed Nagorno Karabakh within
Azerbaijan on the one side and as a republic on the other side. I am an
ordinary person and they will not pay any attention to my statements,
but the reaction of the Foreign Ministry is another issue.
After this reaction they will not do so the next time", the expert
said.
